Captain America : The Winter Soldier Official Movie Trailer Released

Well the wait is finally over! Today we get our first look at the upcoming Captain America sequel, and boy does it look good!

Months back, Directors Joe and Anthony Russo told us to expect the Cap sequel to be more of a political thriller than a straight-up action movie, and it certainly seems like that’s what they’re giving us!

The trailer starts up with Cap (Chris Evans) heading off on a mission. We see Cap chatting with the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and get a sense that he still hasn’t fully adjusted to his new environment. It’s been stated in several interviews that Steve’s “man out of time” characterization will be a heavy focus of the film, and I wouldn’t expect anything less. I get thrown off after taking a nap in the middle of the day, so I can only imagine how a 70-year  slumber could mess a guy up. We know that he’s now working for SHIELD,  and based on the voice-overs and dialogue in the trailer it seems as though he doesn’t exactly see eye-to-eye with the powers that be. How does a battlefield soldier live in a world of espionage and intrigue? “This isn’t freedom. This is fear.” barks Cap. Watching the Star-Spangled Avenger do some black-ops work is sure to be the worth the price of admission.

What I want to see more than anything else, however, is the translation of the Winter Soldier from page to screen. It seems that the Russian-trained elite killer is going to be replaced by something far more sinister-

“Your work has been a gift to mankind. You’ve shaped the century. And I need you to do it one more time.”

Robert Redford’s line to an unseen character. Sure we could assume it’s directed at Cap, but it seems more ominous and foreboding. Could this statement be aimed at the Winter Soldier? We know Redford is portraying a high level SHIELD Director, so is cinema-verse WS working for SHIELD? And if so, why? The trailer shows us Frank Grillo, who is playing the part of long-time Cap enemy Crossbones, as a SHIELD Agent instead of the Red Skull’s right-hand man, and we also see Sam Jackson’s beloved Nick Fury in a hospital bed after what seems to be an assassination attempt. So just what insanity is going on the Marvel Cinematic Universe? However it plays out it sure looks like Cap and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) are going to have their hands full!

And because we need to fuel our constant need for more reveals, we also get this gorgeous new poster to for the movie.

So what do you think of the trailer? Do you think the movie is going to be another Marvel homerun, or will it just be an Iron Man 3 foul ball?
